Stone custom home with fall trees built by Bates Building Company

Our process

Three phases, from first meeting to move-in.

Whether it's a new custom home or a major remodel, here's what to expect when you build with Bates Building.

Every project follows the same three phases. Along the way you'll talk directly with Johnny, the owner, from the first conversation to the final walk-through.

Phase 1

Discovery meeting

A face-to-face meeting to talk through your vision and make sure we're the right fit for your project.

  • Your site or location.
  • Design ideas and how you want to use the space.
  • A general budget.
  • How we price and contract your project.
  • Our services and fees, so there are no surprises.
Phase 2

Planning & budgeting

We turn the vision into a plan and a real budget before anything gets built.

  • Lot and site review. If you don't have a lot yet, we can help you find one.
  • Plan design. We can refer an architect or work with yours to finalize your plans.
  • Bid plan set. We consult with our craftsmen, subcontractors and architect, then bid your plans out to land on a solid project budget.
  • Contract. Once the budget is set, we sign the construction contract and start your selections.
Phase 3

Construction

Most projects take 8 to 12 months, depending on the scope of work.

  • Lender and permits. We provide our budget and plans for your loan and submit plans for permit.
  • Construction. Regular site meetings keep you up to date, and you can always call Johnny directly.
  • Completion. Final inspections and certificate of occupancy.
  • Final walk-through. We go over all completed work, build a punch list and review your warranty.
  • Closing and move-in.

After you move in

We don't disappear at closing.
